2017 New Year’s Digital Marketing Resolutions

It’s that time of the year again! New Year’s resolutions: when we make promises to ourselves and others that we (generally) don’t keep.

But to change it up a bit, let’s look to the future and make some plans for digital marketing in 2017 that we can actually honour.

1. Get your SEO in shape

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is often about making small modifications to parts of your website. When viewed individually, these changes seem like incremental improvements but when viewed as part of a broader battery of site optimisations, they have a significant effect on user experience and performance in organic search results. So, start 2017 off on the right foot by giving your website a SEO tune up.

Is your SEO up to date? SSL hosting? Do a content audit. How are your title tags and descriptions performing? Can you improve your image optimisations and indexing? How is your site speed and schema mark up?

2. Try something new

Social media and digital advertising has to be a part of your digital strategy today. To be competitive, they’re no longer a “nice to have”, they’re “must haves”.

In 2017 make a point of trying a new social media or digital advertising channel. Consider some of the fast growth areas relevant to your brand, like: Adwords, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Instagram and of course, the indomitable Facebook.

Don’t try to do too much, too soon. The key is time, planning and consistency.

3. Social tune up

Be fresh and refocused in 2017. Review your metrics from 2016 and social media marketing strategy to identify areas for improvement. What have you done well? What have you done not so well? What are your key competitors doing? Make a commitment to optimising your performance on your brand’s key social channels.

4. Embrace email

Email marketing was ignored and declared “uncool”/dead during the early rise of social media. But it’s not! Email marketing is actually a significant driving force behind content today and is becoming increasingly important to mobile strategies. So, in 2017 get back on board and seek out opportunities to grow your lists, refine them, and go!

5. Learn more about Marketing Automation

It’s not just another content buzzword, it’s a must have tool. But what is it, exactly?

Marketing automation platforms are designed to manage and optimise marketing campaigns at scale, improving marketing efficiencies and return on investment. Take the time to learn some more about it and how it could benefit your business in 2017.
